Year 5 Class Visit to Duxford

Dear Parents & Carers of Year 5 Children,

Year 5 Class Visit to Duxford

Monday 23rd June 2025

To link with our current History and Geography topics on the First World War, we have arranged for Year 5 to visit Duxford Imperial War Museum on Monday 23rd June, travelling by coach.

Although the museum primarily focuses on the Second World War, it offers a fascinating and valuable insight into the nature of warfare across both World Wars. Through its impressive collection of aircraft, equipment, maps, and interactive displays, the children will be able to deepen their understanding of historical events and the impact of conflict on people and places—key elements of our curriculum this term.  The visit will provide a unique opportunity for pupils to engage with real historical artefacts and develop their historical enquiry skills. We hope it will spark further interest in the topic and give them plenty to reflect on in their learning back at school - and will be a great link to Year 6's topic of WW2.

We will leave school shortly after registration and return to school by the end of the school day, traffic permitting.  The children will need to wear their school uniform, bring a rain coat in case of showers, or if the forecast is for sun please apply plenty of sun cream to your child before they come to school.  The children will be given a Priors Wood hat to wear during the day for ease of identification.

Please provide a packed lunch with plenty of water (no nuts, sweets or chocolate please) in a small rucksack or drawstring bag.  If your child in entitled to benefit related free school meals you may order a school packed lunch if you prefer.  If this is the case please email admin@priorswood.herts.sch.uk by 16th June at the latest to let us know if your child would like the red (meat) or the green (veggie) sandwich option.

The voluntary cost of this trip is £20.50 per child, which includes coach hire, admission & personal insurance.  Please give consent and make payment via Arbor by Friday 13th June.  If you would like to discuss payment, or spread the cost further, please speak to the school office in confidence.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at admin@priorswood.herts.sch.uk if you have any questions or queries.

Please note that if we do not receive enough voluntary contributions the trip may not go ahead.

 Kind Regards,

 Mr Molyneux
